Poloraid photographs became the basis for this set
of paintings. The subjects were lit identically in an “institutional”
light setup. Subjects with meditation experience were provided with
a meditation cushion and asked to practice single pointed meditation
and to place their gaze on a specific point just below lens. The subjects
had a wide variety of meditation experience ranging from one week to
over twenty thousand hours. At a random time in their session the camera’s
shutter was triggered remotely. I brought the photographs to India and
rendered them as paintings.
